Ok guys, due to the demand of my talents the time has come to create a logo and business name for design business. I have a simple style, no frills, no needless decoration, just the bare minimum. Keeping things simple is my goal, hence Creativity with Purpose. I also prefer black and white, but I can do color too. I am an amateur in the design world, so I have much to learn, but one has to start somewhere.
These are logos that I created for Black & White Studio. Here is why I like both of these. They exhibit several of the Gestalt principles of design:
proximity
closure
repetition
figure/ground: when the negative space is as important as the positive space ( negative space = the white space around these letters. positive space= the black letters themselves)
symmetry
asymmetry
continuity
hierarchy
balance
let me know which one you like ( you can dislike both) and why. Please use constructive criticism, I value your opinion. (disregard the watermark in the middle)
I like the one on the left.... also... don't use your big 'ole arty words to try and confuse me.... also.... if you love black and white- you should be hangin' with me... not that pale one, Caitlin.
ReplyDeleteOh yea; I still vote for the multiple use possibilities for both the logos. Like I told you last night the left is perfect for the LOGO and the right would work great on a header or some sort of format that you needed a larger logo.
ReplyDeleteI really love the fact that the small one doesn't spell out black and white.
I like the & on the right symbol as well. It looks really nice, I love the shadow outline it has
Plus I think you chose the right "pale one".
I like the left one, the one that doesn't spell the words out. It's clever. :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the one on the right better. The abbreviations of black and white on the left bother me. If you want to be simple just use b&w. I love the overlaps of the text onto blocks of the same tone in the right one... I might try to use a plus sign (+) instead of the ampersand (&) because I don't like the way it is black with a white outline on the black side. Maybe you could try only a white outline on the left half of it.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be cool to use the same overlap technique on the right in a square format like you have on the left so that you could have a small logo and a header that work together.
Are you formally creating a business or just a logo for your work?
Good Work!
I like the one on the right.
